Rules/Format?

So the only way I've ever played dodgeball was inside (during NY winters Dodgeball was our default gym class activity) was in a pretty large room with 2 teams facing each other. Erik jogged my memory last night--I thought there was only 1 ball, but I do now recall a lot of balls being thrown around at times.

Have you played with 1 ball or many? (OK, I'm opening myself up for a lot of ball jokes here--please don't disappoint) ;)

Did you play in a circle or teams against walls or how else?

Rules??? Any others come to mind?
-If you hit someone in the head, you're out
-If person catches ball you threw, you're out
-If ball bounces first and then hits you, you're safe
-If ball hits back wall first and then hits you, you're out

Ah, thinking of that pleasing 'poing' sound ball makes as it hits an exposed limb...

  • Thanks Ali. You beat me to it.
Also, what about the playing area?
-There's the circle of people and the last person in the middle is the winner.
-The half court styles where you win when everyone's gone from the other team.
    or
-Same as above except when youre out, you go behind the other teams boundary, shag balls and eliminate the other team from behind.
I also like indoors better than outdoors but I'm not picky.
    • These rules seem in order.
As I recall we held on to our balls , unless we had a ball to throw.

No thanks to the rain, I don't want to play outside sat.
I'll let you all know if my space opens up for play.
Sometime after the 5th of Jan. we should be able to use it.

      Jon
      • Everything sounds good to me except for the "no hitting in the head" rule. What fun is it if I can't peg Erik in the head?
        • As long as no one hits me in the head. In the past couple of months I've been hit in the head with a softball & a basketball. I DO NOT want to add a dodgeball to that list.

I've already seen a marked decrease in my ability to add short columns of small numbers.
          • How about instead of being "out" when you hit someone in the head you get extra points or a free slurpee or something. Having the talent to really knock someone's block off with a dodgeball is an accutely honed talent that should be rewarded, not punished. And, if you can manage to knock someone unconscious with one of those rubber balls then you should win the BIG, BIG SURPRISE PRIZE!
  • I've actually played the game like in the movie, made it much more fun and added a lot more teamwork into the mix, the old fashioned circle time game was more chaotic and had an "every man for himself, duck behind the fat kid for cover" kinda feel ;)
